Kiran Yashpal is a basic scientist who obtained her PhD in neuroscience from the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University. She spent most of her carrier at McGill University studying the basic mechanisms of pain in the central nervous system and published several papers in that field. She is currently continuing her research work at McMaster University. She has also been involved in organizing educational courses for health professionals working in the area of pain for several years, and is still continuing to do so. Along with Dr. James Henry she founded the Chronic Pain Support Group in the Burlington/Hamilton area, which has been functioning since 2005. This support group has attracted interested individuals from surrounding areas and the programme has helped several chronic pain sufferers to cope with their pain.
